Scooter's Dawg House: My favorite hot dog joint for 10+ years

Scooter's Dawg House is a seasonal sit down hotdog joint located of of State Route 44 in Mentor Ohio. It opened in year 2000. Being located 3 miles from Mentor Headlands State Park, it is a popular spot to visit for lunch before heading for a fun day at the beach.

My family first visited Scooter's back in 2012, after going to Mentor Headlands State Park for a day at the beach. I don't remember what I got, but it would be the beginning of a reoccuring tradition to visit Scooter's after, or before, the beach. In 2023, wrapping up my senior year of High School, I would go on to convince my friends to go to Scooters for a dinner and watch the sunset after our last day of classes senior year. We would go on May 19th, 2023. This would go on to spark a new thing for my friend circle, that being going to Scooters for dinner and watching the sunset at the nearby beach.

We would do this a few times in the summer of 2023 and 2024, always having a good time. We would drive nearly an hour from home just to get dinner. I would try many different dawgs that they offered, such as the Scooter Dawg, which contains Coney sauce & cheese topped w/ ketchup mustard, relish & onion. Alexis would try the LA Dawg, featuring bacon “wrapped”, mayo, grilled onions & peppers, ketchup. Rhys would get the chicken tenders, and Drew would always try something different, sometimes splitting a "Homewrecker" size with Ian. We would all have a great time getting dinner, laughing and talking about our lives.

Scooter's itself is a charming place, just off the road, its interior hasn't changed very much in 13 years, at least to my memory, and I always feel calmed by the atmosphere of everything. The food is really great, and their fries are my favorite of any place I can think of. In 2025, I drove 3 hours to visit for the opening day to celebrate their 25th year. It was 30f and snowy outside, but it was totally worth it. The many visits I have had over the years, especially with my friends is very memorable. I've attached some photos below (Thanks Alexis for most of them!), and I even made a video about Scooter's in 2024, click HERE to see the video
